We are happy to announce that Dr. Daniel Ruminski from the Institute of Physics at the Nicolaus Copernicus University has won Pascal Rol Award at Ophthalmic Technologies XXXV conference during SPIE Photonics West in San Francisco for the best paper. SPIE Photonics West is the leading global conference and marketplace for lasers, biomedical optics, quantum, and biophotonics technologies.

The study of Dr. Ruminski is a collaborative effort of Nicolaus Copernicus University, Collegium Medicum NCU in Bydgoszcz, Oftalmika Clinic, VMR Institute and the University of Murcia, and it introduces a novel modality for imaging of the vitreous humor – a gel-like ocular tissue located between the lens and the retina. The technology opens gates for fundamental research on vitreous degeneration and clinical applications in diagnosis and management of vitreo-retinal diseases. The project is supported by Polish National Science Center.

The award was established 25 years ago by the Pascal Rol Foundation to promote novel ophthalmic technologies in the memory of Dr. Pascal Rol, an optical engineer at Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, involved in chairing Ophthalmic Technologies Conference. This is the first time when the scientist from Poland obtained the award.
